Riso Basics
Pressto! Studio is Voila! Studio’s dedicated space for Riso printing. Risograph printing is kind of like a photocopier crossed with a screen printer. It uses bright, soy-based inks and masters (stencils) to make bold, textured prints that feel handmade. It's also budget-friendly and easy on the planet. Win-Win.
Your black-and-white artwork gets turned into a stencil, which wraps around a drum filled with your chosen ink colour. The paper feeds through while the drum spins and prints your design, one colour at a time.
The Risograph is perfect for: Artist Prints, Zines, Books, Posters, Flyers, Brochures, Business Cards, Menus, Cards, Postcards, Calendars and can even print 3-4 colour photographs.
Imperfections
Part of the beauty of riso printing is that no two prints are the same. Although we do our best, artwork can contain imperfections such as:
Misregistration: Like screenprinting, each colour is a separate layer meaning the overlap of colours can sometimes differ.
Smudging: The ink sits on top of the paper, so it can smudge if you touch it too much.
Roller marks: Marks caused when the page is heavily inked.
Uneven ink coverage: Can vary depending on density of ink and type of paper used.
Colours: Colours are specific to the Riso so can’t be colour matched and can look a lot diffferent in real life that on a screen.
Paper
The Riso is best used with uncoated paper between 80gsm and 250gsm and can be used to create any artwork up to A3 in size.

Colours currently available
Print Setup
A3, flattened, greyscale PDF that’s at least 300dpi (600dpi is best if you can)
Please leave a 10mm boarder around the artwork as Riso doesn’t print full bleed.
If you require full bleed on your artwork it will be cropped down so please include 3mm bleed.
Text (if using) must be set to black.
Save each layer of the artwork as a separate file and name the colour you require.
